Who let the dogs in..? (Answer: It’s us!)
Most of us have a list of essentials to bring on any holiday. Swimming costume? Tick! A good book to read on the beach? Tick! Hiking boots for a long country walk? Tick!
Oh, but what about the beloved family dog?
For many people, finding a holiday where they can take the UK’s most popular pet is fast rising to the top of that essential list. In fact, more than 30 per cent of households now own a dog, according to UK data firm Statista.
But it’s not always easy organising a staycation which is ideal for our four-legged friends. Space to run around and somewhere cosy to sleep are just as important as access to great walks and the nearest vet in case of emergencies.
Our self-catering Old Bakehouse Cottage is perfectly set up to cater for canine needs. As well as the essentials - dog treats and poo bags provided on arrival - we offer dog bowls, a range of different size sleeping baskets, comfy canine blankets and towels to clean those muddy paws.
We’re all set to receive Rover, help you feed Fido and ensure Sadie gets a good night’s sleep! But the cottage is also surrounded by a great doggie support network in Colyton, with the town home to Jurassic Vets (www.jurassicvets.com) and pet food supplier Wagg N Purr’s Pantry (www.waggnpurrspantry.co.uk). You are also just minutes away from stunning meadows and pretty walks along the River Coly.
Further afield you and your pooch can explore the gorgeous beaches of the world famous Jurassic Coast, especially from Autumn to Spring, when dogs are given unrestricted access to all these beauty spots. A ten-minute drive will bring you to the pebble shoreline at Beer, stunning cliff top walks at Branscombe and the chance to let your dog join you on a fossil hunt in Lyme Regis!
Visitors to the cottage have given us the thumbs up in reviews on Airbnb this year. One guest Hope, said: “We’d love to stay again - great value, incredibly clean and lovely touches for a doggy visitor.” Another guest Lucy, reported in a separate review: “We have stayed in many places that say they are dog friendly, but at [the] cottage our little dog Sid was made to feel so at home.”
Finally, Anna-Maria, from London, said simply: “We arrived with a dog and Steve and his wife [that’s us!] even prepared little treats for him and provided a comfy dog bed and toys - clearly melted our hearts with that.”
