Colyton is the venue for the best Devon artists

If you’re looking for a weekend full of artistic inspiration, don’t miss the amazing Big Colyton Art Show, which showcases works by more than 30 regional artists.

Colyton Grammar School is the venue for the event this Saturday and Sunday 8-9 November, a tremendous opportunity to meet the makers, browse original work, and maybe even treat yourself - or someone else - to a special piece, all in a friendly community setting.

The exhibition features a range of styles and media in 2D and 3D, with many of the artists drawing inspiration from the communities, countryside and seascapes of the Devon and Dorset coast.

There’s also the chance to buy original works, prints and postcards, which will help support the artists directly. Big Colyton Art Show (BCAS) patron Lisa Parkin says in this year’s brochure: “BCAS continues to thrive, which is a testament to the dedication of those who give their time and energy behind the scenes… this year promises to be a true highlight in East Devon’s cultural calendar.”

Among those exhibiting is local talent Anna Brewster, who has kindly lent some of her works now hanging in the dining room at The Old Bakehouse.

Anna works from her Umborne Bridge Studio in Colyton.

She originally trained in photography but switched to painting and mixed media when she moved to Devon — and hasn’t looked back.

Her practice is very much about the local landscape and seascape and uses watercolours, pastels, pencils and gouache.

Beyond making artwork, Anna also runs workshops and is very engaged with the local creative community — for example her “Art Club” sessions at her studio. You can find out more about Anna and buy her artwork at her website: Annabrewster.com. Here’s Anna’s works now being featured for guests to enjoy at The Old Bakehouse.
