Summer ain’t over… yet!

To clumsily paraphrase the 1990s rock star Lenny Kravitz, summer ain’t over til its over! And there’s plenty of great things to see and enjoy across East Devon during September. Just check this lot out!

Colyton Carnival (14 Sept): The biggest and brightest (so many light bulbs!) event in the town this summer, the annual Colyton Carnival starts with a huge street market in the main car park at 2pm, followed by an evening procession which kicks off from 7pm. The parade includes floats and dancers as it winds its way through town, drawing thousands of spectators. The carnival is a fantastic fundraiser for local charities too.

Sidmouth Walking Festival (14-20 Sept): If hiking is your thing, this is the festival for your feet! Hosted by Sidmouth, there are five daily walks across the seven days of the festival, with routes across the East Devon Way and spectacular trails along the coast from Lyme Regis to Exmouth. Find out more at visitsidmouth.co.uk or book yourself on to a walk at the tourist information centre: tic@sidmouth.gov.uk

Taste East Devon Festival (14-22 Sept): And if food is your thing, this will get those tastebuds tingling! This fourth annual celebration of delicious Devon food and drink has a range of culinary events to cater for all tastes, including at nearby River Cottage and Lyme Bay Winery. For details check out their website tasteeastdevon.co.uk

Colyford Goose Fayre (Sept 28): Now in its 44th year since a 1980 revival, this celebration of traditional countryside entertainments includes archery, falconry, Morris dancing and a mock auction of geese. Fancy dress adds to the authenticity with many participants in full medieval garb! Don’t miss this amazing day, for latest details check out the Colyford Village website at colyfordvillage.co.uk

Of course, you can also spend your time just relaxing in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or enjoy a swim on the Jurassic Coast. Remember, this is when the sea is at its warmest of the summer!

There’s still availability at The Old Bakehouse for those seeking a late summer getaway. You can book one of our four en-suite bedrooms and enjoy a hearty breakfast before making the most of this fantastic part of East Devon. Book your break at colytonbakehouse.com.
