So we’ve come up with a special weekend itinerary for visitors to East Devon, blending charm, relaxation, and scenic countryside adventures:
Friday Evening – Arrival & Welcome
Check-in: Settle into your room at The Old Bakehouse B&B or our self-catering Old Bakehouse Cottage holiday home.
Dinner: Enjoy a hearty meal at The Kingfisher, a highly rated local pub just a few steps away, offering fresh, locally-sourced dishes.
Evening Stroll: Walk through Colyton’s medieval streets and admire the illuminated church tower of St Andrew’s Church.
Saturday – Nature & Nostalgia
Morning
Tuck into a traditional cooked breakfast and a range of fresh fruits, cereals and breads in our dining room.
Seaton Tramway Ride: Take the heritage electric tram from Colyton Station through the Axe Valley to Seaton, admiring the stunning estuary wetlands before arriving at the coast for a refreshing dip in the sea.
Afternoon
Stretch those legs with a stroll along the Seaton shoreline to Seaton Hole and then climb the cliff top path and make your way over the headland to the charming fishing village of Beer.
Take a refreshment break in one of the historic pubs. We recommend lunch at Steamers for delicious seafood
Work off those calories with a walk back to Seaton, taking in stunning coastal views along the way, then take the last tram back to Colyton.
Evening
Unwind With a glass of wine at the Colcombe Castle cellar bar or enjoy a Spanish tapas dinner at No 1 Silver Street.
Alternatively travel ten minutes by car to the fantastic 14th century Masons Arms pub in nearby Branscombe for a contemporary menu with award winning beers.
Sunday – Hidden Gems and prehistory
Morning
Breakfast and visit to St Andrew’s Church with its rich history, peaceful grounds and 1,000-year-old Saxon cross.
Afternoon
Head to fabulous Lyme Regis, just a ten-minute drive from Colyton to one of the jewels on the Jurassic Coast. Browse boutique shops in this bustling seaside resort, swim off the sandy beach or join the fossil enthusiasts and hunt for your own Jurassic souvenirs along the rocky shoreline.
Enjoy lunch at the Cobb Arms pub nestled on the corner of the world famous Cobb Harbour, a 13th century breakwater offering panoramic views back across the town.
